Built in 1865, known as the John Gillig Building. (Original Sign still appears on the building “Hardware, Stoves, and Metals”) History says a local Latvian Jewish immigrant Jacob Davis created canvas pants with copper rivets for the local miners. He purchased the canvas tent materials from a German Jewish immigrant Levi Strauss Co. They Co-patented these jeans in 1873, and the “Levi” jeans are still alive today! |
